The New York Yankees have announced a significant change to their facial hair policy, now allowing players and staff to have “well-groomed beards.”
The decision came after discussions with former and current Yankees players, leading to a shift from the team’s longstanding grooming regulations.
In a statement, general managing partner Hal Steinbrenner said he had spoken to “a large number of former and current Yankees – spanning several eras — to elicit their perspectives on our longstanding facial hair and grooming policy.”
“I appreciate their earnest and varied feedback,” he continued, adding that the conversations “are an extension of ongoing internal dialogue that dates back several years.”
The policy, dating back to 1973, required players to be clean-shaven, with exceptions for mustaches.
The change has sparked mixed reactions among fans and players, with some welcoming the update while others view it as a departure from tradition.
