On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., hosted its 22nd annual youth symposium on the campus of Howard University. The conference, entitled “Sisters Let’s Talk…Revitalizing Your Inner Virtue, Embracing the True Essence of You,” hosted hundred of girls from D.C. high schools.
With a focus on self-love, empowerment and fields of profession, the conference attempts to inspire its attendees through panel discussions led established and influential black women.
This year, panel discussions touched on who the girls are and who they will be in the future. The panelists, including Miss United States Candiace Dillard and NPR director of news operations Sharahn Thomas, shared personal stories of struggle and triumph leading to the point they are in their lives now. The day long conference culminated with a luncheon and keynote address by actress Meagan Good.

In a very transparent interview, Good spoke about her personal relationship with God, her husband, making poor decisions and how the confidence she presented didn’t always correlate to how she felt.
Good is preceded by other notable black women, including business mogul Angela Simmons; Grammy Award-winning Letoya Luckett; Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and TV One’s Love The Girl actress Tatyana Ali; and former editor of Essence Magazine Susan Taylor.
“I feel like the conference went really, really well,” said Anayka Pomare, a member of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the conference’s public relations chair. “I feel like we really touched the lives of the girls, because this is what this conference was about- empowering young women. Meagan Good came in and touched somebodies life..she was change agent for a student today.”
