The House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood in Virginia Tuesday despite women's rights advocates having protested on the Capitol grounds and in the House chamber.

Attorney General of California Kamala Harris, who became the second Black woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate, and former Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown are among leaders scheduled to serve in Congress in 2017.

Under the legislature, law enforcement would be permitted to delay a gun sale for three days – enough time to allow the Justice Department to make a case before a judge that the purchaser should not be allowed due to placement on the terrorist watch list, according to USA Today.

If members do not leave the floor and no compromise is reached, it is largely up to Speaker Paul Ryan to decide whether to use the authority of the House to seek to clear the floor and/or sanction members, or to keep the House in recess and wait out the issue.
