In response to the killing of Trayvon Martin, and the rhetoric, media circus, and social network commentary regarding the Florida v. Zimmerman verdict and the “Stand Your Ground” doctrine, a dynamic forum for youth and young adults will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00am at Union Temple Baptist Church, 1225 W Street, SE, Washington, DC 20020. The #YES4Trayvon Youth Engagement Seminar is organized to be an open forum discussion about Florida v. Zimmerman with legal and civil rights experts, historians, and media personalities for the purpose of concisely and intellectually unpacking and demystifying the case.
The goal is to ENGAGE, INFORM and EMPOWER young people. The forum will include a thorough case analysis, an in-depth discussion of the social and civil rights implications of the case, a discussion about social and civic responsibility, and small group break-out sessions.
You are encouraged to attend, bring youth and share this with anyone that you feel would be interested in participating!
