During Super Bowl week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell decided to shine light on the current situation in Washington with the Washington Football Team mascot name. He went on to inform us that 9 out of 10 Native Americans like the team name even though they see if as a racial slur. He went on to mention that the NFL has used the name in a way that honors Native Americans and that only a small minority of them disagree.
“This is the name of a football team … [and it has been] presented in a way that honors Native Americans,” Goodell said.
Still no word on a name change, with Goodell’s comments, I highly doubt it. We’ll be watching though.
