At only 17 years old, Chicago upstart rapper Chief Keef is no stranger to controversy. From being on house arrest for allegedly pointing a gun at a police officer to recently dissing Lil Wayne, Chief Keef has made quite a first impression on the rap world.

He stepped into trouble again recently when he mocked the murder of Chicago rap rival Lil JoJo on his Twitter page. JoJo, 18, (real name Joseph Coleman) had reportedly been beefing with rival rappers Chief Keef and Keef’s associates Lil Reese and Lil Durk as well as with the Black Disciple street gang for months before he was fatally shot last week in the same Chicago neighborhood where Jennifer Hudson’s family was slain.

Hours after JoJo’s murder, a message was posted on Keef’s Twitter account saying, “Its Sad Cuz Dat N—- Jojo Wanted To Be Jus Like Us #LMAO.”

Keef signed to Interscope Records this summer. A source close to the label told the Chicago Sun-Times that Interscope bosses are waiting to see if police determine Keef sent the offending Tweet, or if he was involved in the alleged gang feud leading to JoJo’s murder before deciding Keef’s future.

The insensitive tweet drew instant backlash from Keef’s followers. Chief Keef would later claim that his Twitter account had been hacked. He’s since tweeted that he had nothing to do with the murder and is praying for JoJo’s family. Many of Keef’s tweets end with the hash tag #300, a known reference to the Black Disciples.

JoJo has a song called “BDK” that many interpret to be a Black Disciples diss. The “BDK” allegedly stands for Black Disciples Killers. A YouTube video of the song shows JoJo and several others dancing with automatic weapons. JoJo’s mother told the Chicago Sun-Times that her son had reportedly been discussing a record deal with Waka Flocka Flame and Brick Squad.

Chicago police are currently investigating if there’s a link between JoJo’s murder, Chief Keef’s tweet and the violent gangs like the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples that call Chicago home.
