Why: In November 2008, the American public elected Barack Obama as the first African-American President of the United States, culminating in his inauguration on January 20, 2009. This historical inauguration was consummated the day after we celebrate the birth date of the world’s most influential civil rights leader and architect of the riveting “I Have a Dream” speech, also delivered here in this great city of Washington, D.C. How incredibly fitting! What an incredible step toward achieving Dr. King’s historically profound vision of equality. The event will also help raise funds for two important charities, The Memorial Fund for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument and the African American Civil War Memorial Museum.  Their work celebrates the historical journey, from The Civil War…to Civil Rights…To Making History with the first African-American being elected as the President of the United States.
