I am sure that after hearing this, the Till family will be writing another letter; smh
Atlanta rapper, The Future, did an interview earlier this week, in which he was asked about his thoughts on the while Lil Wayne and his verse in the “Karate” ( remix). In response to the question, Future said:
“I think overall with the whole situation, he did bring light in a positive way to what happened, even though they thought it was negative, he brought a positive energy to the situation…”
He also went on to say:
“My dad didn’t even know who Emmett was. He thought I was talking about Emmett Smith… He raised awareness to people who didn’t even know Emmett Till, to young kids that never even knew what happened to him. There’s a lot of people who don’t understand.”
Now the fact that Future feels that Lil Wayne brought awareness to the situation, I can agree with that. REAL Black History is barely taught in schools anyway, so when the youth heard their more than likely favorite rapper being ridiculed about his lyrics, they probably did research to find out what exactly he did wrong. Because of Lil Wayne, there are more people who know about Emmett Till, and his story. As far as Lil Wayne bringing positive energy to the situation, I am not too sure about that Future.
What do YOU think!? Do you think Lil Wayne’s lyrics were an educational opportunity, or just “life and times of a rapper”!? Hit me on Twitter (@REDalert__) with your thoughts!
