From The Sound Live:

Everyone is talking after North Carolina lyricist J. Cole decided to push up the release of his new album ‘Born Sinner’ up an entire week, trying to figure out what enticed the 4 year veteran rapper to push up his release so drastically.  What really has people talking is the fact that he chose the exact same day that Kanye West is set to release his weird album, ‘Yeezus’.

“I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album,” Cole told Billboard’s The Juice blog. “It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought.”

Is J. Cole making a wise decision to indirectly compete with Kanye? We believe so. What we have heard so far from J. Cole seems as if it can certainly compete with some of the strongest releases thus far in 2013 and the album can eat off of ‘Powertrip (ft. Miguel)’ for weeks to come. People love J.Cole for his honesty in his music, never really any glitz or glamour just raw lyrics and stories to remind you of your own life. Those same characteristics that drove him to success with ‘Power Trip’ will guide him to success on his new release date June 18th. Most people will probably get their hands on both albums anyway.
