Months after the Paula Deen scandal went public Oprah Winfrey has finally opened up about her friend from the South who used the N-word. Oprah recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to express her thoughts on her friends controversy. Oprah stated,

“I think Paula Deen was sort of used as a symbol, but I think lots of people use the word inappropriately all the time,” she said. She later added that she wants to wait for the “dust [to] settle” before reaching out again for a “real conversation.”

Oprah who is out and on the trails promoting her new movie, “The Butler“, starring herself and Forrest Whittaker, also recently said that she can’t have friends who use the N-word.

“I think Paula Deen was sort of used as a symbol, but I think lots of people use the word inappropriately all the time,” she said. She later added that she wants to wait for the “dust [to] settle” before reaching out again for a “real conversation.”

Those are poignant and deep words from the media mogul. I agree with you Op, we need to stop saying the word and commercializing. What do you all think? Let me know.
