This has been LONG overdue!
As an avid watcher of the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) , I have always wondered “Where are the Black girls”. Yes, there was Maya Rudolph who was probably the closest thing to a Black girl, but since then nothing! The sketch comedy poked fun at not having a Black female cast member when Kerry Washington hosted the show last year. Check out the video below :
With that sketch and media comments, SNL got on the hunt for a Black female cast member. SNL hosted private auditions and specially invited 12 Black female comedians. After seeing the auditions, they decided on Sasheer Zamata to be their FIRST Black female cast member since six years!
Sasheer Zamata graduated from University of Virginia, so not only is she hilariously funny, she also educated. Zamata is scheduled to make her SNL debut on January 18th, the same night that rapper Drake is scheduled to host.
As a true SNL fan, I am glad that they have found a Black female cast member. Sasheer Zamata is hilarious and I am anxious to see what skits and characters they come up with for her. Below is one of her funniest YouTube videos :
Sasheer Zamata is just what this show needed, and I will definitely be tuned in to SNL January 18th.
