Two years ago Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were making the small theatre circuit performing songs off of their latest album, “The Heist.” Now they’re rap megastars and getting set to perform a short set for The Grammys.

What better way to highlight both Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ grassroots career-building and promote The Grammys too than to have them perform on a bus?

The surprise performance is pretty sweet (if not probably a little staged), but they aren’t the first music superstars to ambush folks with an impromptu performance. In fact, it happens fairly frequently. So look around and maybe one of these artists (or many others) will show up in your world.

Coolio

After a show in Preston, England, Coolio went back to a college student’s apartment where he cooked food and collaboratively performed “Gangster’s Paradise.”

Stevie Wonder

Ahsan is a singer on the Interscope record label. While performing a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon In The Sky” in a studio session, Stevie Wonder, the man himself, showed up and accompanied Ahsan with piano and vocals.

John Legend

John Legend was on tour with Sade when he decided he wanted to relive his childhood a little bit by performing in church. He went to college in West Philadelphia so he chose a church there called Calvary Baptist. Check out the cell phones popping up in record time.

B.O.B.

In what may have been another Grammy-related publicity stunt B.O.B. sang “Airplanes” over the flight speaker system on a plane that would take him to The Grammys. Hmmmm…sounds suspect, but it still looked like fun.

Rihanna

Rihanna likes to sing so much she’ll even do it for free…briefly. While on tour in Europe Rihanna stopped by a bar in Germany to sing a couple of karaoke songs. She was drunk as hell though so her technique wasn’t that great. But hey, you get what you pay for.
