Mitt Romney Takes To Twitter To Say Confederate Flag Must Go

Former Presidential candidate Romney took to Twitter to express his views on the Confederate flag flying in Charleston. Romney said what a lot of Black people have been saying since forever: Take down the flag – it is a symbol of racism to many, and it is disrespectful to the many who suffered because of the ideals that it represents. In the wake of the Charleston church massacre, it has certainly brought the conversation back into public debate. On the one hand, there are some Southern people (see: racists) who will claim that this represents their “proud” heritage. On the other hand, there are ordinary people of all races who understand that the flag represents a time when America’s hatred for Black people was the law of the land.

To be fair to Romney, although he’s had some rhetorical slip ups (see; Binders full of women), and despite disagreeing with some of his views, he has always struck me as a reasonable person. So it really isn’t that big a surprise that he is weighing in on the issue like this. Aside from Romney, here are some other reactions to the confederate flag still flying in Charleston:
