The 2016 MTV Movie Awards red carpet style brought a clash between feminine and masculine style. From business babes to romantic blush tones and lace, there was a whimsical yet structured vibe.
BOARDROOM STYLE IN FULL EFFECT
It was all about business at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Sexy suits seemed to be the theme and the ladies put the men to shame in their menswear style. Gigi Hadid gave us Versace pinstripes with modern glam in a lime green, lace detailed button down, which she literally, button-downed to reveal a black lacy bra with fringe. Is that a body chain underneath there?! Brava for the intricate detail in this seemingly simple look. Tres chic. There isn’t a deal that couldn’t be closed in this look! It’s refreshing to see her wearing something other than Balmain.
While I was happy that Gigi gave Balmain a rest, I was so glad Carla Delevigne represented for the Army. Balmain means business when they give us boardroom style and the cut-out black bodice. I love the lip color, Carla is wearing, looks like Mac Stone. Love the simplicity, yet sexiness of this look. Definitely my favorite for the evening.
MEET ME IN THE BEDROOM
Bringing the bedroom to the red carpet, some of our stars gave us romantic and whimsical looks. Kat Graham made up for her iHeart Radio Awards style debacle and gave us this beautiful, blush, vintage Dolce and Gabbana corset dress. Werk. Proving that some pieces are timeless, this 2003 piece is on trend. Metallics are the new nude and go with so many looks. I love that Kat Graham paired these silver, strappy shoes with her dress.
Kendall Jenner proved that the bedroom also deserves a little bondage and stunned in thigh high gladiator pumps! The model wore a high-low, see-thru pleated skirt with frayed edges that showed off her fabulous shoes. The lace up deep plunge and the scalloped edges gives us a romantic, yet racy vibe.
AN EMBELLISHMENT OF STYLE
Embellishments trended on the 2016 MTV Movie Awards red carpet. This extra detail on a piece can take your chicness up a notch. You can have embellishments in various degrees. Let’s see how the celebs tackled this trend.
Actress Charlize Theron wore a lacy Alexander McQueen number with silver butterflies ascending up her decolletage. The see-thru pleated skirt and lace bodice would have been perfect without the continuous butterflies around her waist. It was just too much of a look and overdone. I do like Charlize’s ballerina bun which shows off her fantastic bone structure.
TV personality Egypt Criss (and daughter of Salt from Salt-N-Pep and Treach from Naughty By Nature) gave us a matching coordinate set (was she reading out Get The Look?!) with jeweled embellishments. This was supposed to be feminine and flirty but came across as someone’s mom’s dress that attempted to be refurbished into a stylish two piece. I want to see something younger and more sleek on Egypt!
