Phoenix Suns v Cleveland Cavaliers

The Knicks are about to hire their fifth coach in four years. Yikes.

The lucky man is Jeff Hornacek and on Thursday (May 19), he entered into an agreement in principle to take the job. The staffing change has not been made official yet, but an announcement is expected soon. Hornacek coached the Phoenix Suns but was fired in February after getting off to an abysmal 14-35 start. The 53-year-old played most of his career in Utah and Phoenix as a shooting guard.

One arguably odd aspect about this hiring is that Hornacek has no experience with triangle, which is something in which Phil Jackson takes great pride. But according to the NY Daily News, Hornacek will be able to choose whether he wants to run the triangle, a luxury that wasn’t offered to the last coach, Derek Fisher.

With Hornacek at the helm, the Knicks stand to have a solid season, barring any major injuries from Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis.
