If we had a penny for every time Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said something offensive, and all around impeachable, we’d be millionaires.
With the election about a month away, the rhetoric from his camp is getting more vile each day, especially with Sen. Hillary Clinton’s recent bout of sickness. While she’s feeling better and back on the campaign trail, it hasn’t stopped the New York businessman from attacking her health and general well-being.
As reported by NBC News, while in Miami Friday evening, Trump questioned Clinton’s position on gun rights as wanting to “destroy your Second Amendment” and said that her bodyguards should no longer carry firearms in light of her policy stance.
“She doesn’t want guns, take their — let’s see what happens to her,” Trump said. “Take their guns away, okay? It’ll be very dangerous.”
Sadly, this is not the first time Trump has alluded to wanting to see Clinton suffer from physical harm. In August he joked at a rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina that if Clinton wins and gets to pick Supreme Court justices there’s nothing that can be done for proponents of the right to bear arms.
In rebuttal to all his comments, Interactive One’s SVP of Content and Brands, Kierna Mayo, spoke on CNN to Don Lemon.
“At this point I’m tired of talking about the man as though there’s something about this campaign… that isn’t vile, isn’t offensive —to African Americans in particular— but to all thinking Americans,” she said.
“And at this point we’re parsing apart the crazy when in fact we’ve gotten to such a height that it’s challenging how all of us are interpreting the news. I think all of us have lost our lens. Certainly media has, myself included.”
Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was wounded in a 2011 shooting attack that left six people dead, also denounced Trump’s comments, and called Trump “reckless, irresponsible and unworthy of the office he seeks.”
In addition to loaded statements against Clinton, Trump’s rallies have become a hotbed of violence with supporters often physically assaulting dissenting protesters. Most recently, a 69-year-old woman on an oxygen tank was allegedly punched for protesting outside of Trump’s North Carolina rally.
A lot will be revealed in the upcoming weeks, especially with debates between the candidates. But at this point, there’s a clear loser, even if he’s winning in the polls.
