While most teenage boys from Brooklyn, New York grow up idolizing rap stars such as Biggie and Jay Z, these burgeoning rockstars are an exception to the rule. Malcolm Brickhouse, Jarad Dawkins, and Alec Atkins of the band ‘Unlocking The Truth’ connected over their love for heavy metal, crediting bands like the Chili Peppers and Nevermore as some of their favorite inspirations. Together, this unique blend of young and talented musicians is poised to take over the rock world playing by their own rules.
A lot has changed for the teens since they first popped up on the music scene in 2007. They’ve had the opportunity to perform in front of hipster crowds at Coachella and SXSW. They’ve recorded and released successful albums, and most recently, the group released a documentary titled “Making a Monster.” The full length movie takes fans on a roller coaster ride of the ups and downs of teenaged life on the road.
“You see us grow as a band. You see the good times and the bad times,” the group explains of the documentary. “You see the ins and outs of the music business.”
Fans can also expect to see a more personal side of the group, as the trio deals with their relationships, friendships, and personalities all changing and growing while they ride this wave to the top.
The band hopes through this documentary fans will be able to see what the group has gone through and how they’ve accomplish their goals. “A lot of people are wondering why it happened the way it did. This movie gives a decent segway into why things go they way they do in the music business. It shows why artists go through what they go through,” the trio explained.
So what’s next for Unlocking the Truth? Fashion. “We want to do clothes too. We’re trying to get our fashion game out here right now. We’re trying to find a way to stay authentic and still get our message out.”
