The Roots bandleader and music historian Questlove will be putting his extensive knowledge of music to use when he co-teaches a course called “Classic Albums” at New York University.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is set to join forces with Universal Music Group’s Vice President of A&R Harry Weinger to teach the two-credit class at the prestigious Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The course is to begin at the beginning of the spring semester. Some of the albums to be studied are Michael Jackson‘s Off The Wall, Beastie BoysPaul’s Boutique, and Aretha Franklin‘s Lady Soul, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jason King, who is the associate professor of recorded music at the university, commented, “[Questlove] really does represent this hybrid figure in the music industry at this point, this person who is a musician, has social media abilities, is an archivist, has an incredible music mind, and really understands the history of music in a way that you would previously only expect from music journalists. So it’s exciting to have him in this position doing something that in many ways comes naturally to him.”

When Questlove officially begins his tenure at NYU, he will join music figures like producer 9th Wonder, rapper Bun B, and rapper/producer Swizz Beatz who have taught college courses. How dope of a professor do you think Questlove is going to be?
