WHY:           

President Obama’s visit underscores Prince George’s Community College’s role as a partner with local businesses to prepare today’s workforce professionals in a variety of skilled trades, including weatherization, green construction and information technology.

Program Participants

Corey Lamar Blocker will perform the National Anthem. Blocker is a music major at Prince George’s Community College. He plans to transfer to Bowie State University in the fall to study music education. The Temple Hills, Maryland, resident is a member of the Voices of Triumph, the college’s new gospel choir.

Washington, DC native Makarim Muhammad will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Muhammad is studying pre-medicine at Prince George’s Community College. She plans to transfer to University of Maryland in the fall to further her studies in public health science and health policy. The Oxon Hill, Maryland, resident is president of the college’s Student Governance Association and member of the Pathways to Student Leadership Program, Campus Activities Board, and Fashion Fabrics Community Outreach. In addition, she is an honor student with a 3.4 GPA.

Kadeem Adrian Palmer will deliver the invocation. Palmer, originally from Jamaica, is studying psychology at Prince George’s Community College. This semester, he completed requirements for an associate degree and is dually enrolled at Howard University. He plans to become an educational psychologist, author, and lecturer. The Largo, Maryland, resident is a member of the college’s Diverse Male Student Initiatives, Enrollment Services Student Ambassadors, and the STEM Collegian Center. In addition, he is an honors student with a 3.25 GPA and works as a student assistant in the Office of College Life Services on campus.

CAMPUS BUILDING CLOSURES:

On March 14 at 11 a.m., Novak Field House will close to students, staff and the public.  The Robert I. Bickford Natatorium will close at noon. The facilities will reopen at 4 p.m. on March 15. All classes and programs scheduled during those hours are canceled.

Prince George’s Community College is a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Two-year Education designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security (2010-2015). Established in 1958, Prince George’s Community College provides transfer and career programs that help students transfer to four-year colleges and universities and prepare them for the workforce.
