6 Things To Look Out For During The NBA All-Star Weekend

The NBA All-Star Weekend returns February 14-16 to take over New Orleans. As flight plans are being worked out and hotels are being booked up, the NBA has all sorts of activities planned to promote the prowess of their athletes and the beauty of the game.
However, the only thing that really matters about All-Star Weekend is the stuff that the NBA can’t really control.
1. Lil’ Wayne
It’s his friggin’ home town. You know Lil Wayne aka Weezy aka Tunechi will be there, locks flowing in the wind, microphone in hand and running with a full gambit of YMCMB members onstage with him and all over the arenas. Will the heavyweights like Drake and Nicki Minaj be there too?
2. Girls Girls Girls
The only thing more prevalent than celebrities during the NBA All-Star weekend are the women that want to get next to them. Party after party after party will feature every model chick, video girl and random beauties from both east and west of the Mississippi.
3. JR Smith getting into trouble.
JR Smith’s career is a perplexing one to everyone, including him. After winning Sixth Man Of The Year and signing a 3-year, $18 million contract in the offseason he celebrated by violating the NBA’s drug policy and getting himself benched with typical JR Smith antics.
So when the basketball world descends on New Orleans while JR Smith’s NBA career is up in the air, why wouldn’t he party hard during the All-Star break? This will probably be legendary.

And then there was the dunk contest…
4. The dunk contest will suck again.
There will be few, if any, stars participating in the dunk contest. Someone in the NBA committee responsible for the competition will decide to add some gimmick that no one will care about to make up for the lacking star power. Remember the ‘Wheel O’ Dunk?’ What will they come up with this year and how long will it get booed?
5. Who will dunk over a vehicle?
Once upon a time Blake Griffin dunked over a car and got a massive promotional deal out of it. Since then, dunking over vehicles had happened way more often than anyone ever wanted. Hopefully the trend won’t return this year. But if it does, who will be stuck with this lame gimmick?
6. The judge and fan reactions will be the most entertaining part of the dunk contest.
No matter who shows up or who judges the contest, the hootin’ and hollerin’ of the judging corps and the other NBA athletes will trump most of what happens on the court. Who will have the most videos of their reactions circulating the web afterward? Kobe or Lebron?
