Janet Jackson, 49, surprised many when she announced to fans on social media that she was taking time away from her “Unbreakable World Tour” indefinitely to focus on starting a family with her 41-year-old husband Wissam Al Mana.

Jackson made the announcement in a Twitter video, saying: “Please, if you can, try to understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up — doctor’s orders. But I have not forgotten about you.”

Jackson is not the only Black female celebrity to turn to motherhood late in life.

Tyra Banks, 42, welcomed her son York Banks Asla via surrogate in January 2016. Halle Berry, 49, had both of her children over the age of 40, including a daughter, Nahla Aubry, and a son, Maceo Martinez.

Take a look at the other Black women who’ve had children over the age of 35, proving that the long-believed idea that women should start families early is a thing of the past.

We wish all of them the best of luck with their families!
