DC Council Member Trayon White Indicted On Federal Bribery Charge

D.C. Council member Trayon White, who represents Ward 8, has been indicted on federal bribery charges, according to court documents. White is accused of agreeing to accept $156,000 in exchange for using his influence to pressure employees of the D.C. Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement and the D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) to extend several contracts, prosecutors said. White serves as chair of the D.C. Council committee that oversees DYRS and other agencies.

Court documents filed Thursday allege White received $35,000 through four cash payments as part of the scheme. His lawyer has declined to comment on the case, and White has not publicly responded or entered a plea since his arrest on August 18 in the Navy Yard area. However, he briefly addressed his supporters in an Instagram video, thanking those who have continued to stand by him.
