Billboard Magazine declared her the most successful artist in the ’90s and the pop star was named artist of the millennium at the 2000 World Music Awards.
Why She Doesn’t Compare:
While Whitney had her downfalls, fans wanted to see her make a comeback. However, the same can not be said for Mariah. After leaving Columbia records in 2001, Carey’s popularity took a hit when she signed with Virgin Records. A poor outing of her album/movie “Glitter” Carey had an emotional breakdown. Since then, her career hasn’t been the same. While Whitney was praised for role as Rachel Marron in her film debut “The Bodyguard,” Mariah has resorted to bit parts in gritty independent dramas like “Precious.”
